Since I’m working on getting a set of Whelps for my mage Vervaine I thought I’d share my tips for farming these companion pets.

Crimson Whelp
Take a skinner and head out to wetlands. Stop by Greenwarden’s Grove and empty your bags – use the mail box and mail cloth/skins/drops to an alt, your going to need space – set yourself to auto loot and loot everything – it adds up quick. Your going to start out at Raptor Ridge 69.34 and kill every raptor in sight including clearing out the cave which about once an hour you will find a nest has spawned in there, which once you ‘clicked’ rewards you with a Razormaw Hatchling worth 200-350 gold. Continue along the ridge and you will end up down by the burning gate entrance to Twilight Highlands here you will kill Ebon Slavehunter and Ebon Whelp who can drop not only the Crimson Whelp but also the Dark Whelp. Follow the road out to an area with wrecked wagons where you will find several groups of Ebon Slavehunters and Dragonmaw Whelpstealers fighting. If you prefer farming in one spot than this is the spot, the respawns are almost instant. Kill these Dragonmaw/Ebon npc’s till your hearts content or until your ready for something else. I follow the road which ends at the Greenwarden’s Grove, emptying my bags. Then I head over to the spider cave Thelgen Rock 52.62 and I kill all the Leech Stalkers outside the cave. According to WowHead.com these spiders Leech Stalkers and the Highland Lashtail raptors have a slightly higher droprate for the Crimson Whelp than most other kills in this zone. After killing spiders I head back towards Raptor Ridge killing all Ebon Whelps/Slavehunters on the way.

Bonus: There’s not a higher droprate for these but there are three rares in this zone that have been known to drop the Crimson Whelp now and then. Mirelow can be found north of Greenwardens Grove, look around the pools of water. Gnawbone is a gnoll and can be found in the gnoll camps along the water north of Whelgar’s Retreat. And Sarltooth is a bone raptor which can be found at the back of Whelgar’s Excavation Site.

So far: 6 hrs — 1 Dark Whelp, 6 Razormaw Raptors, and countless greens/blues, stacks upon stacks of linen/wool cloth, medium/light leather, not to mention the medium/light hides and grey items. With the current AH prices for the raptor pets and leather I’ve already made several hundred gold. The leather sells as fast as I can list it actually!
